Item Handed 117p Rating By Timeform

Juddmonte's Item has been rated 117p by Timeform for his York heroics.

The son of Frankel won the G2 Dante Stakes earlier this week. He is rated one pound below G1 Betfred Derby rival and G3 Chester Vase hero Benvenuto Cellini (Frankel). Below the top two are Listed Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes one-two Maltese Cross (Sea The Stars) and Bay Of Brilliance (New Bay).

Timeform's senior analyst Rory King said, “Item's success in the Dante means he'll head to the Derby, trailing only Benvenuto Cellini in the ratings, with the Juddmonte colt given a rating of 117p for his impressive victory.

“Even a slightly conservative view of the Dante form prompted by the first two racing on what was seemingly the better part of the track puts Item right in the mix on Timeform ratings for the Derby – in between Benvenuto Cellini and the first two from the Lingfield Derby Trial.

“Whilst there were still signs of his inexperience on show at York, the way he saw the race out having taken a bit of a grip suggests he's got very sound claims of staying the extra two furlongs at Epsom if he relaxes better.”
